Work beginning on historic towpath

Riverside House are starting work this week on smartening up the historic towpath in front of the Foster Rastrick Iron works, on the Stourbridge Canal.

A small team will begin to clear the brambles, ivy and pick up the litter. This will be followed by the removal of graffiti and restoration of the brickwork including the history interpretation panel, dry dock and canal boat basin bridges and entrances.

Initially one day a week will be spent on the restoration work, which will also provide outcome based opportunities for adults in health and social care, using personal budget allocation or Education, Health and Care Plans, and will help individuals develop work skills, communication skills, enhanced self-esteem, confidence and employability skills.

The towpath has been adopted by Riverside House from Canal & River Trust, who are offering training and support.

The project is also being part funded by Dudley MBC through their Community Forum grant award which has had the unanimous backing from local Councillors.

The team will be undertaking the work every thursday to begin with, so come down and say hello…
